Sources and notes

Declared disasters: National Emergency Management Agency, DRFA Activation History by LGA (data.gov.au, CC BY 2.5 AU) and disasterassist.gov.au event pages (© Commonwealth of Australia 2018, CC BY 3.0 AU). Council areas: Australian Bureau of Statistics, ASGS Edition 3 Local Government Areas 2024 (CC BY 4.0).

Hot days: SILO Patched Point Data (Queensland Government, CC BY 4.0), derived from Bureau of Meteorology observations. Counts use measured days only; years with more than 10% gap-filled days are marked incomplete. Changes made: annual counts of days at or above 35 °C and 40 °C calculated from daily maximum temperature.

National extreme heat days: 2021 State of the Environment, Climate chapter data (data.gov.au, CC BY 4.0).

Counts are declared disasters (government recovery funding activations), not hazard intensity or damage. Declaration practice differs between states, and a national event is counted once per state. Historical events are mapped to 2024 council boundaries.
